Introduction:
Jam Roll means, a sponge cake spread with jam, cream, or some other filling and rolled up.
Jam roll cake, also known as jelly roll, is a type of sponge cake roll that’s believed to have originated in central Europe in the 19th century. The first known use of the term “roll cake” or ” was in 1852 in upstate New York, when a recipe for a sponge cake with jelly was published. The recipe, called ” to make jellycake”, instructed the baker to ” bake quick and while hot spread with jelly”.
Other recipes for cakes rolled around a layer of jam appeared in england and the united states around the mid-19th century under various names. The cake is thought to have originated in austria or slovenia, along with other 19th century inventions like battenberg cake, doughnuts, and victoria sponge.
Jam roll also called as swiss roll often. The spiral layered shape of the swiss roll has inspired usage as a descriptive term in other fields, such as in optics and many forms of the term “Jelly Roll”.

Making The Mango Carrot Jam:
Ingredients to Make Mango Carrot Jam-
- 1 kg Carrots
- 6 Medium Raw Mangoes
- 6 cups Sugar
- Red or Green Food Colour (optional)
Instructions to Make Mango Carrot Jam –
1. Peel and wash carrots and raw mangoes well. Add carrot and raw mango separately to the vegetable curry. Take three cups of water in a bowl. Then cover with the grated carrots in that water and boil for 25 minutes. When the carrots are cooked, add mangoes with it. Cover with another cup of water.
2. After five to seven minutes, when the mangoes are cooked, mix six cups of sugar with them. Keep stirring occasionally so that it does not stick to the bottom. Then keep stirring with a little red or green color. After about 15 to 20 minutes the jam has thickened and the jam is sticky yet soft and pour into a clean bottle. If cold, close the mouth and keep it in a clean place. Mango carrot jam is ready.
Making Jam Roll:
Ingredients to Make Jam Roll-
- 1 cup Flour
- 1/2 cup Butter
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 3 Eggs
- 3/4 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/4 tsp Vanilla
- 1/4 cup Milk
- 2tbsp Sugar Powder
- 1 cup Jam
- Brown Paper
Instructions to Make Jam Roll-
1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
2. Now take 1 cup of flour and 3/4 teaspoon of baking powder in a bowl and mix it well.
3. Take 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup sugar in a bowl and beat it well. After beating, if the butter looks light and glossy, beat it with eggs one by one. In this way, beat 3 eggs one by one. Once it is beaten, mix vanilla with it. After mixing, slowly add flour and milk three times.
4. Then grease a 38 cm x 25 cm baking dish well. Sprinkle some flour on the greased tray. Smooth it all around so that it sticks well. Then shake off the loose flour from the tray.
5. Then pour the dough into the baking dish in such a way that the dough is evenly spread all around.
6. Then bake in the oven at 190°C or 375°F for 15 minutes. When done, take the baking tray out of the oven.
7. Now spread the brown paper on the table or big tray. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top. Place the cake tray upside down on the sugar. When the cake falls on the paper, remove the tray. Be careful not to break the cake while removing it from the tray.
8. Wrap the cake quickly while still warm before it cools. Pick up the brown paper in both hands and press it with four fingers to wrap the cake with the help of the paper in such a way that the paper is in hand while the cake is wrapped. Care should be taken not to wrap the brown paper with the kick. At times, gently press the cake lightly with the palms of both hands, so that the cake does not loosen after wrapping. Once fully wrapped, wrap the cake in paper and place in a bowl.
9. After that, when the cake is cold, open the brown paper and cut the hard part around the cake with a knife. When the fork is formed, spread jam or jelly on the cake with a spoon or knife. After spreading the jam or jelly, wrap the cake again
10. The picks should be left for an hour after wrapping. After a few hours, cut the cake into 1 cm thick pieces with a sharp knife. Make and cut all the jam rolls in this way.
